Because wheelchair users spend long periods sitting, their knees tend to bend, causing their trouser hems to ride up. In most cases, this is a natural change due to their sitting posture, not because their trousers have shrunk.
Be careful with longer trouser lengths.
Some people might think that showing ankles makes the child look cold and suggest longer pants, but pants that are too long can cause falls, such as the hems getting caught on wheelchair steps, being stepped on when standing up, or getting in the way during transfers.
If you are concerned about cold ankles
Instead of simply lengthening your pants, you might find it more comfortable to wear slightly longer socks or ankle warmers. This is especially true in winter, where socks are a recommended solution.
The trouser length was just right when standing, and any longer would have caused it to catch on the ankles. In some cases, by using "longer, non-constricting socks" in combination with the trousers, the customer was able to stay warm.
When choosing clothing for wheelchair users, it's important to strike a balance between warmth, appearance, and safety.
